Monitoring and Repatriation

Due to an infrastructure boom in Maldives during early 90s, locals were reluctant to perform in low paid construction industry. Therefore, it created the need for an influx of foreign workers in Maldives. To address this matter, Maldives Immigration established a separate section named as the Expatriate Monitoring and Repatriation Section, which was established during 2009.
The core functions of this section are collecting data and records of missing or absconding expatriates, providing detention facility, investigations related to expatriates, mandatory raid operations and penalizing expatriates who violate the constitution of the Maldives and the Immigration Act 1/2007.
