- A registration process is carried out by Expatriate Monitoring and Repatriation Section (EMRS) to provide victim support and to facilitate the undocumented expatriates to travel back to their native country. Expatriates who seek for assistance shall attend to EMRS on every Thursday.
- An interview process will be held to establish the identification of the expatriate and to identify the reason why the expatriate became undocumented.
Apart from repatriation, a Special Voluntary Departure Program (SVDP) was conducted twice by EMRS in the past to tackle the problem of vast and rapidly growing irregular expatriate workers in Maldives. The aim of these programs was to assist return migration by allowing the irregular and undocumented migrants to go back to their native country, without penalizing for staying illegally in the Maldives. Approximately twelve thousand expatriates registered in these programs and over six thousand migrants returned to Maldives with legal status.
Similarly, another regularization program for migrant workers were conducted which was entitled as Shared Responsibility Program, was held during 2015. Hundreds of undocumented migrants were legalized through this program without leaving the country.
