Maldives Immigration introduced ‘Atholhu’ Module in a Ceremony held at Immigration’s Head Office, on Tuesday. This online portal was officially launched by the Chief Guest, Member of the Parliament for the Hoarafushi Constituency, Mr. Ahmed Saleem.
‘Atholhu’ Module is an inhouse product of Maldives Immigration, designed for the data management of foreigners. Hence the main objective of the portal is to establish a comprehensive mechanism to manage and monitor foreigners residing in Maldives. This portal will be deployed to Atoll Councils, Island Councils and other relevant law-enforcement agencies, to build a well-coordinated data management system, which could also be utilized as a resource for the related agencies. As such, this portal will also empower the decentralization policy of the government.
This portal will enable the monitoring of foreigners living in different parts of the Maldives. Additionally, the law-enforcement agencies will be able to track the migration of foreigners from one island to another. This will also capitalize the local councils to build a comprehensive demographics of foreigners residing in the specific islands. Furthermore, it will assist in verifying the documented and undocumented expatriate workers within islands.
In June 2020, biometric identification features will be added to enhance the portal. As such, facial recognition and fingerprint can be used as an identification after the improvement.
