This year’s largest raid operation to combat the issue of illegal expatriates was conducted yesterday.

In a significant move to address the pressing issue of illegal migration in the Maldives, a joint raid operation was conducted by Maldives Immigration and Maldives Police Services on June 29th, 2024. This decisive action carried out under the vision of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, reflects the government’s commitment to maintaining law and order and ensuring compliance with immigration regulations.

The operation targeted four local market locations, known for employing a large number of expatriate workers. In this extensive raid, a total of 83 expatriates working non-compliantly were detained. After thorough assessments, eight of these detained expatriates were released back to their employers, having met the necessary compliance requirements.

This operation marks the biggest raid of 2024 by Maldives Immigration, underscoring the government’s resolve to combat illegal migration and enforce strict adherence to the country’s immigration laws.

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has emphasized the importance of such operations in maintaining the integrity of the Maldives’ labor market and protecting legal workers’ rights.
