Visa

A foreign national intending to enter the Maldives for the purpose of marrying a Maldivian citizen or registering a marriage in the Maldives must obtain a Sponsorship Declaration prior to arrival.

The Sponsorship Declaration must be submitted by the Maldivian sponsor through the IMUGA Portal and approved by Immigration before the foreign national travels to the Maldives.

Note: Foreign nationals already residing in the Maldives on another valid visa may apply for a change of visa category after the marriage has been legally registered.

• The following documents must be submitted with the application:
• Completed Application Form (IM20), endorsed by the Family Court
• Copy of the foreign spouse's passport
• Copy of the latest arrival stamp (for first-time applicants)
• Copy of the latest visa page (if currently residing in the Maldives)
• Marriage Certificate
• Copy of the Maldivian spouse's National Identity Card
• Recent passport-size photograph of the foreign spouse meeting passport photograph specifications
• Valid medical report (first-time applicants only)
• Valid health insurance (first-time applicants only)
• Any additional documents required by Maldives Immigration

1. Applications must be submitted electronically through the IMUGA Portal.
2. Log in to the IMUGA Portal.
3. Navigate to Visa and select Apply for a Visa.
4. Indicate whether the applicant is currently in the Maldives.
5. Select Resident Visa and choose Marriage Visa.
6. Complete the application form.
7. Upload the required supporting documents.
8. Review the application and submit.

• The initial Marriage Visa is issued for a period of one (1) year.
• Marriage Visas may subsequently be renewed for periods of up to five (5) years, subject to continued eligibility and approval by Immigration.

• Once the application is approved, the applicant can login and download the evisa.
• Renewal applications should be submitted within one month before the expiry of the current Marriage Visa.
• Marriage Visa holders are responsible for ensuring that their visa remains valid at all times.
