Marriage Visa

A Marriage Visa permits a foreign national married to a Maldivian to remain in the Maldives. If travelling to marry/register the marriage in the Maldives, a Sponsorship Declaration must be submitted via IMUGA prior to arrival. After arrival, complete the legal marriage process and apply for a Marriage Visa within the given period. If already residing in the Maldives, transfer your existing visa to Marriage Visa once marriage registration is completed.

Overview

A Marriage Visa is a permit granted to a foreign national to remain in the Maldives who is married to a Maldivian national.

Before Arrival (Sponsorship)

A foreigner travelling to the Maldives to marry a Maldivian, or a foreigner married to a Maldivian and travelling to register their marriage in the Maldives, must be sponsored prior to arrival. Submit the Sponsorship Declaration online via IMUGA, the digital platform for immigration services.

After Arrival & Visa Transfer

  • After arrival, complete the legal marriage process and apply for a Marriage Visa within the given period.
  • If already residing in the Maldives, transfer your existing visa to Marriage Visa once the legal procedure for marriage registration is completed.

Documents Required

  1. Application for Permit Extension Form (IM23) (stamped by the Family Court)
  2. A colour copy of the passport biodata page (applicant)
  3. Last arrival stamp page (for first-time applicants arriving on sponsorship to register their marriage)
  4. Copy of the last visa page (applicable to applicants who already have a visa to remain in the Maldives)
  5. A colour copy of the Marriage Certificate
  6. ID card copy of the Maldivian spouse
  7. Passport-size photo (in accordance with Maldives Immigration Photo Standard)
  8. Medical health screening report from a Hospital/Clinic authorised by the relevant government authority (required only for first-time applications)
  9. Health insurance (required only for first-time applications)

How to Apply

  • Submit Marriage Visa applications online via the IMUGA portal.
  • When the application is processed, the submitter will receive an SMS notification and an appointment will be provided to submit the passport for visa.

Validity & Extensions

  • Marriage Visa is issued for 1 year for new applications.
  • Marriage Visa extensions are issued for up to 5 years.
  • Extensions can be submitted via IMUGA with a minimum 3 months remaining before expiry.

Important Notes & Fees

  • A fee of MVR 50 will be charged for the visa card.
  • Ensure all documents meet format and photo standards to avoid delays.
