A Work Visa is a permit issued for a foreigner to stay in the Maldives for the purpose of employment. Employers must obtain a Work Visa within 15 days of the employee’s arrival (based on a valid Work Permit). Work Visa holders must maintain a valid visa at all times and cannot depart the country without a valid visa stamped in their passport.

Overview

  • A Work Visa permits a foreign national to stay in the Maldives for employment.
  • Employers must obtain a Work Visa for employees within 15 days of arrival, based on a valid Work Permit issued by the Ministry of Homeland Security and Technology.
  • Work Visa holders must keep their visa valid at all times while residing and working in the Maldives.
  • Departure is not permitted without a valid visa stamped in the passport.

How to Apply

  1. Log into the Xpat Online System.
  2. Search for the employee using the Work Permit number or passport number.
  3. Go to the Visa tab and select “New Work Visa”.
  4. Confirm the visa duration (must match the Work Permit duration).
  5. Attach all required documents.
  6. Save and submit the application.

Note: An employee must obtain a Work Visa within 15 days of arrival in the Maldives on a valid Work Permit issued by the Ministry of Homeland Security and Technology.

Documents Required

  1. Passport-size photo (as per Immigration photo standards)
  2. Passport copy (biodata page)

If the Application is Incomplete

  • Employers can view the reason for incompletion by logging into the Xpat system.
  • Resubmit the incomplete documents and update the application.

How to Get an Appointment for Passport Submission

  • When the visa is approved, go to the “Work Visa” tab and select “Ready for Submission”.
  • Select the passport and click “Request Appointment”.
  • Choose the submission location, preferred date, and available time slot.
  • Click “Make Booking”, then “Confirm Booking”.
  • On the appointment date, take a token via the “Ant Queue” application between 8:15 AM – 10:30 AM to submit the passport.

Passport Collection

  • Once processed, the application appears as “Ready for Collection” in the Xpat system.
  • Tokens for collection must be taken from the “Ant Queue” app between 8:15 AM – 10:30 AM.
  • Service for collecting passports begins at 8:15 AM for five or fewer passports, and at 1:00 PM for six or more passports.

Important Notes

  • No service will be provided for missed tokens, unless urgency is verified via email.
  • Do not take multiple tokens for the same submission receipt or PPH number.
  • Information tokens are issued from 8:15 AM – 11:45 AM, and from 1:00 PM – 1:45 PM.
  • If you miss your passport submission appointment, reschedule it through the Xpat Online System.
